Ep. #99-The Craft

This week, we kick off our annual Month of Horrors Extravaganza by taking on 1996’s teen thriller THE CRAFT, directed by Andrew Fleming. Four high school girls get witchy and discover that with great power comes great responsibility…or something. Honestly, the messaging here is a little muddled, and what seems on the surface like a tale of female empowerment becomes more complicated upon a closer look. Honestly, we had no idea it was even possible to devote this much careful thought and analysis to a film like THE CRAFT. We impressed even ourselves is all we’re saying.

Ep. #53-Chill Factor

Boiling summer temps got you down? Then come cool off with us as we take on 1999’s long-forgotten action-comedy CHILL FACTOR. Cuba Gooding Jr. and Skeet Ulrich star as a pair of mismatched working-class stiffs who are tasked with saving the world when they come in possession of a chemical bomb that will detonate if it gets above 50 degrees. Luckily, Cuba’s got an ice cream truck, and Skeet has the charisma of a cadaver. As temperatures rise and tempers flare, can this SPEED rip-off keeps it cool? And will we ever learn who the hell Skeet Ulrich is, anyway? Grab a cold beer and find out.
